Encouraging Your Child to Eat Well
If you are like many parents out there you may be frustrated and baffled by your child’s eating habits. Does it seem like all he or she wants to eat is crackers, cookies and other processed foods high in sugar and salt. It can be frustrating and exhausting trying to get a small child to enjoy foods that are nutritious. It is not impossible, however, to encourage great eating habits without pulling out your hair. Here are some great ideas for getting your little one to stop snacking on junk and start eating healthfully.
1. Set a good example
First of all, you need to take a look at your own eating habits. If your child sees you hitting the drive thru or munching on candy he or she will follow your lead. By the same token, if they see you eating well they will be much more likely to do the same.
2. Stock the house with healthy choices
It is very difficult to eat foods that simply aren’t available. Throw out the crackers, the cookies and the ice cream and stock up on fruits, veggies, nuts and more. This will also make it easier for you to set a great example.
3. Sneak nutrients into their food
Try blending or mashing veggies, fruits and other nutritious foods and then sneaking them into your kids’ food. For example, blend carrots, spinach or sweet potatoes into a smoothie with bananas and apples. Another great idea is to mix vegetables into meat like hamburgers or into dishes like spaghetti.
4. Continue to offer healthy options
Don’t let yourself get discouraged. No matter what you should continue to offer healthy options to your child. If he turns his nose up at broccoli then give it a few days and try again. If he says he hates bananas try sneaking them into a peanut butter sandwich. Don’t give up. Your child’s health is important enough to keep trying.
The truth is that we all love treats. Be patient and understanding with your child. They may not immediately love broccoli and, of course, they love ice cream. You should be realistic and allow some small treats in moderation. You should also be diligent and thoughtful about what the whole family (that includes you!) is eating.

Why We Love The Ultimate Receiving Blanket.
Most of you reading this have probably swaddled a baby or two but for those new parents you might quickly realize there is an art to getting it just right. Now it's not complicated but most parents will tell you that practice makes perfect. I have to agree with this statement. Having swaddled two children myself there were times when I thought I would never get it right. For this reason we are really excited about the ultimate receiving blankets from Swaddle Designs.

Each blanket comes with a handy how to resource that is sewn onto the blanket. When ever in doubt just check the tag. And the thing I like most is that if we have a sitter or parents in town they too can effectively swaddle the baby.
Baby blankets are offered in a large variety of colors and styles. Priced between $30 and $32 these blankets make wonderful baby shower gifts.
If you would like more information about our swaddling blankets or have any questions please feel free to let us know.

Wordless Wednesday: Reflection
This is officially my first Wordless Wednesday and so far I have to say it's been great. There is nothing better than flipping through old photo's and thinking back to all the memories made during those times.
This is a photo of my husband and son on our trip to St. Lucia. It was a great trip that included many hours on the beach, playing in the sand, taking a trip to the emergency room and making great friends!

What Does Organic Mean?
Many new parents who are considering looking for organic products for their baby wonder what organic means. They hear the word, and are told that it is good to use organic things for their baby, such as food, clothing, bedding, and toys. They’re told organic is healthier, safer, and that they’re being better parents by using these things rather than traditional, non-organic products. But many parents wonder how anything can be non-organic, unless it was created in a lab. After all, if something comes from nature, isn’t it automatically organic? Not necessarily.
Organic products have a very specific definition. They are products that are made or manufactured using materials that have been produced without using any synthetic chemicals or poisons. For food, this means the food was grown without any pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals being sprayed on it. With clothing and bedding, it means the fabric is made from thread from a natural source, usually cotton, hemp, or bamboo, that was grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals. With toys, plastics are usually out altogether, since plastics are full of chemicals. Organic baby toys are those made with cloth of an organic origin, sustainable and non-chemically treated wood, or some other material found in nature and unadulterated in any way (this extends to paints and other parts used on the toys).
It is very important to use only organics with a baby. It’s important for adults, too, for obvious reasons, but with babies, it is even more essential, because they are still developing, and they can be more easily affected in a negative way by exposure to the harsh chemicals used in most conventional products these days. Chemicals can disrupt their hormones, affect their immune systems, cause them to have neurological difficulties (including ADHD, autism, and similar disorders), and much more. Many people with chronic illnesses experienced for the first time as an infant can trace the origin of the condition back to the chemicals that were in the products they were exposed to as babies.
So, now you know what organic means, and why organic products are the best for your baby. You should be happy to know that you don’t have to pay a fortune for these products. You can easily find affordable deals on everything organic for your baby by shopping around online. Just remember that doing this is what your baby needs and that you’re being the best possible parent by going organic for your baby, and that will be all the motivation you need to find everything your baby needs in an organic model.
